What does this course involve?

You’ll learn a range of skills including music performance and rehearsal techniques, music industry, music technology, song writing and composing.

In the second year of the Study Programme you will have the opportunity to run one of our inhouse micro businesses, which will either involve organising and playing a monthly gig or putting out releases on our College record label.

You can look forward to working on projects that reflect the rigours of industry in our brand new Creative Industries Centre.You will build a portfolio of work that you can use to present to industry.

Before joining this course you will also need to demonstrate your abililty to play an instrument, perform a vocal piece or provide a portfolio of relevant experience.

This Study Programme will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and it will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.


What qualifications do I need?

4 Cs or 4s including English and maths.


You will learn through practical and written assessments.

Fees & Costs

You will need your own instrument (e.g. guitar, bass, etc.) and a pair of headphones. Drums and Keyboards are supplied by the College.

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

If you are aged 19 and over an Advanced Learning loan may be available if you are studying at Level 3 and above. To find out if you’re eligible visit

We offer this course as a two year Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, to further your technical learning or progress on to university or other Higher Education courses. On successful completion of the Extended Diploma you could progress onto one of our HNC Music programmes, a university degree programme or into employment within the music industry.
