What does this course involve?

This course is designed for those working or volunteering in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs, and communication and professional relationships. Modules covered include: Communication and professional relationships Schools as organisations Support learning activities Promote positive behaviour Develop professional relationships Promote quality, diversity and inclusion Support assessment for learning Understand child and young person development Engage in personal development Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people Support health and safety This Study Programme will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and it will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.


What qualifications do I need?

You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C / 5, or equivalent, including maths and English. Students may be able to progress from Level 2 vocationally related programmes.


Assessment will be by the building of a portfolio of coursework and by workplace assessments.

Fees & Costs

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the course your course will be free. There may be payments needed for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learner(over 19yrs) then financial support towards the costs of your course may be available.

Progression routes include the Level 3 Early Years Educator course. Alternatively, you may wish to progress into employment.
