Students from across the country descended on East Kent College’s Broadstairs campus eager to be crowned World Skills regional beauty champion when the College hosted the prestigious competition.
Competitors came from as far away as Manchester to take part a diverse range of categories such as make-up, nail art and back and facial massage. The competition also had a fashion photographic make-up category, which saw some spectacular full body painting with the theme being the 'environment'.
Broadstairs student Madeline Annandale won the photographic make-up category with her creation which illustrated the decay caused by pollution.
The 18-year-old said: "Winning this competition will be great on my CV. When I’m not at College, I work part time for Benefit Cosmetics in Bluewater and I know they are going to be very impressed with this achievement."
Level 2 student Katana Higerty came first in the hands and face section, while Level 3 student Melissa Mepham won the body and face category. Hair dressing lecturer from Dover, Zoe Kersley, who had also entered came third in the nail art with her fascinating variety of nail art designs.
Principal of East Kent College’s Broadstairs campus, Paul Manning, presented the certificates and prizes after welcoming everyone to the Michael Wright Centre at the Broadstairs campus.
He said: "It is a great honour to host the World Skills Beauty event and I would like to welcome the team of distinguished international judges as well as mentors and students from around the country.
“It’s wonderful to see so many talented individuals honing their skills and competing against their peers, and I would like to congratulate all of the participants for their creativity."
The top eight students in each category from all of the nationwide heats will be invited to compete World Skills UK finals at the NEC in Birmingham between the 17th and 19th November.
