What does this course involve?

This is a distance learning programme with an expected duration of 18 months for teaching or learning support staff whose role requires competence across a range of responsibilities. Candidates may be working alongside the classroom teacher or on their own with individual children or groups of children.

Learners will work towards:

Combined qualification: Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.

Literacy/Numeracy/ICT: Fulfilled by completion of Maths, English and ICT at an appropriate level.

ERR: Employment Rights and Responsibilities.

PLTS: Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.

All qualification elements must be achieved to complete the apprenticeship framework.

There are a number of mandatory units in the workplace to be completed. Apprentices will be required to study a number of optional units linked to specific industry requirements.

The learner is expected to take ownership of their award. Full support will be given recognising differentiation in its entirety.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

Candidates must be employed in a supporting role within a school, and will be invited to undertake initial assessment to demonstrate the minimum levels of literacy, numeracy and ICT required.

Assessment

The certificate is assessment based and requires students to compile a portfolio of evidence.

Fees & Costs

This course is fully funded if the Apprentice is aged under 19.

If the Apprentice is 19+ then a £750 employer contribution is required.

Opportunities

On successful completion, you could progress onto the Level 3 Diploma for the Children's and Young People's Workforce, if you have the appropriate experience. You could also progress on to Higher Education or Employment.
