What does this course involve?

Candidates gain the Professional Cookery Apprenticeship Level 2 framework qualification by completing and achieving:

Competency Qualification: NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery Level 2.

Technical Certificate: Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles Level 2.

Maths and English: Fulfilled by completion of Maths and English at level 1.

ERR: Employment Rights and Responsibilities.

PLTS: Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.

All qualification elements must be achieved to complete the Apprenticeship framework.

There are a number of mandatory units concentrating on food safety to be completed. Apprentices will be required to complete a number of optional units linked to specific skills requirements.

There is an expectation that Apprentices will undertake personal study in order to demonstrate knowledge of the subject area, and compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their competence.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

Apprentices should be employed within an appropriate kitchen environment.

Apprentices will be invited to attend a short informal interview prior to the course commencing and to undertake initial assessment to demonstrate the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required.

Apprentices will be allocated a personal tutor for guidance throughout the duration of the course.

Assessment

The process of assessment requires the demonstration of skills together with appropriate knowledge and understanding to a specified standard. Assessment of the NVQ is based on a combination of observation, questioning and collection of evidence from the workplace.

Fees & Costs

This course is fully funded if the apprentice is aged under 19. If the apprentice is 19+ then a £500 employer contribution is required. For more information please contact Support Services:

Opportunities

On successful completion, you could progress onto a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship or employment in the Catering and Hospitality industry.
