What does this course involve?

Broadstairs Campus

You’ll learn advanced culinary skills and gain expert knowledge in the preparation and cooking of a wide variety of dishes. Working alongside our industry experienced chefs you will gain a nationally recognised qualification which has been the starting point for some of the UK’s top chefs.

You can look forward to being a part of entrepreneurial developments such as our produce brand, Viking Bay Fine Foods, and take part in master classes with Michelin starred and locally renowned chefs.

Folkestone Campus

You’ll learn advanced culinary skills and gain expert knowledge in the preparation and cooking of a wide variety of dishes.

Working alongside our industry experienced chefs you will gain a nationally recognised qualification which has been the starting point for some of the UK’s top chefs.

You can look forward to being a part of entrepreneurial developments and taking part in multi-cultural master classes held by celebrated and inspirational locally renowned chefs.

You will be expected to undertake 30 hours of work experience with a recognised local employer during the course of the year. It is recommended that you undertake relevant employment outside this qualification.

These Study Programmes will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at C grades or equivalent, including maths and English. Students must have completed a Level 2 vocationally related programme.

Assessment

Broadtstairs Campus

You will learn through practical sessions in our kitchens and assessment will be through written work and online tests.

Folkestone Campus

You will learn through practical sessions in our kitchens and assessment will be through written work and online tests.

There will be a a written exam in March and a practical Synoptic test in June.

Fees & Costs

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.
