What does this course involve?

You will learn many transferable skills including: working in the industry, creating a production, crewing for live gigs, exploring computer systems used by performers and technicians, exploring composition and content creation, performance skills and professional development.


Units will focus on both ensemble and solo playing, gig set-up and working in the industry. The Study Programme also contains additional challenges in the form of community-based activities. Our new £3.3m Creative Industries Centre includes a theatre, digital media suite and music performance spaces, helping you to develop skills and training in digital industries as well as other creative areas.


You will need to demonstrate your ability to play an instrument or perform a vocal piece.



What qualifications do I need?

4 Ds or 3s including English and maths or a relevant full level 1.


Assessment will be through a combination of practical, written, and presentation assignments. This is a mainly practical course with written work as supporting evidence, and assessments based on practical work skills.

Fees & Costs

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

Please note: For those claiming state working age benefit this course is classed as part-time.


On successful completion, you could progress on to our Level 3 programme in Music Performance.


Alternatively, you could seek employment in the recording and performance industry, or in arts administration.
