What does this course involve?

Candidates gain the Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Apprenticeship Level 3 framework qualification by completing and achieving:

VCQ: Work based competence portfolio.

Technical Certificate (VRQ): College-based course covering trade knowledge: exam and practical assessments.

Literacy/Numeracy/ICT: Fulfilled by completion of Maths English and ICT at an appropriate level.

ERR: Employment Rights & Responsibilities.

PLTS: Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.

All qualification elements must be achieved to complete the Apprenticeship Framework

There are a number of mandatory units concentrating on health and safety in the workplace to be completed. Apprentices will be required to study a number of optional units linked to specific trade requirements.

There is an expectation that candidates will undertake personal study in order to demonstrate knowledge of the subject area, and compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their competence.


What qualifications do I need?

Apprentices should be employed within an appropriate Automotive environment. Apprentices will be invited to attend a short informal interview prior to the course commencing and to undertake initial assessment to demonstrate the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required. Apprentices will be allocated a personal tutor for guidance throughout the duration of the course.


The process of assessment requires the demonstration of skills together with appropriate knowledge and understanding to a specified standard. Assessment of the VCQ is based on a combination of observation, questioning and collection of evidence from the workplace.

Fees & Costs

This course is fully funded if the Apprentice is aged under 19. If the Apprentice is 19+ then a £750 employer contribution is required. If the Apprentice is aged 24+ the please contact us for more information about 24+ learner loans.
