What does this course involve?

The Professional Diploma in Accounting Level 4 is awarded by the AAT. Each Level 4 module will further develop accounting skills including how to draft financial statements for limited companies and Budgets. The full qualification will provide the opportunity to achieve AAT professional membership and/or fast track onto further accounting qualifications including CIPFA, CIMA, ICAEW, ICAS and ACCA. Enrolment will take place at commencement of the academic year but further modules can be purchased later in the year (sessions will run subject to numbers). Mandatory modules: • Management accounting: Decision and control – Weds Eve (Sept) • Management accounting: Budgeting – Weds Eve (Feb) • Financial statements for Limited companies – Weds Day (Sept) • Accounting systems and control – Weds Day (Mar) Optional modules: • Personal Tax – Thurs Eve (Feb) • Business Tax – Thurs Day (Feb) Modules can be purchased on a module by module basis which will mean that any number of modules can be purchased to complete in one academic year (subject to guidance from the AAT team). All modules listed will be available to purchase at full cost and will not be able to be funded by any other means. AAT qualifications are valued by employers who actively seek AAT qualified staff. It shows that you have practical skills in accounting underpinned by thorough knowledge that will help you achieve success in the workplace. Part time modular tuition allows you to fit your training around your work and family commitments.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

You need to have achieved the AAT L3 Diploma in Accounting. It is also important that you possess a good standard of literacy and numeracy and are able to complete assessments and written projects in English. All assessments are undertaken using a computer therefore you need to be IT literate. Go to www.aatskillcheck.org to undertake an accounting skills check. Print off the result and bring along to your interview. Please declare at interview any bankruptcy or debt issues past or present and/or criminal convictions. Please contact the AAT direct on 0845 863 0802 to discuss individual circumstances prior to enrolment to ensure AAT membership can be obtained. Before commencement of course, please declare holidays during term time that could affect studies and exams.

Assessment

Five unit assessments (at end of each unit) plus one synoptic test.

Opportunities

Successful completion of 4 mandatory and 2 optional modules will provide the opportunity to progress to achieve AAT professional membership and/or onto further accounting qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA. To achieve professional status and the letters MAAT – you will need to evidence competence at both L3 and L4 of the AAT qualification as well as work experience (contact AAT for further information). You could alsdo choose to progress into employment, suitable roles include: Accounting Technician, Accounts Manager.
