What does this course involve?

You will learn the skills needed to go into a career in business, working in a variety of settings. You will learn about the main components of a business, from the finance, marketing and sales departments through to customer service and human resources.

Broadstairs Campus

Studying at our Broadstairs campus, the course will focus on the skills needed to work in the business sector. With Westwood Cross shopping centre located in the centre of Thanet, there will be more job opportunities for those with good customer service and business skills, as well as the vast array of businesses in and around the local area. It will also enable students to gain the skills necessary to progress to higher education, such as essay writing skills and exam preparation.

In addition, the course can lead on to employment in the retail and hospitality industry and you will benefit from links with local employers in the many retail outlets and hospitality businesses in the local area. Banking and finance is also a very popular option with students being able to learn the skills to work in an economic environment.

Our Broadstairs campus also has its own onsite hotel, The Yarrow, which will enable you to learn how to deliver a great experience to customers. Work experience is a key element of this course and students will be encouraged and helped to find suitable placements. There will also be the opportunity to work with The Local Chamber of Commerce to create an innovative and exciting business event within the local area.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and maths or a relevant full Level 2 qualification at Merit or above.

Assessment

You will learn through practical and theoretical lessons and build a portfolio of work. The coursework will be assessed through exams, assignment work, reports, presentations, role-plays and practical projects. Work experience placements will be assessed through successful completion the placement and associated paperwork and feedback from employers.

Fees & Costs


If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free.
There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials.


For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your
Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with
course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

Opportunities

We offer this course as a two year Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, to further your learning or progress on to university or other Higher Education courses. On successful completion of the Extended Diploma you would be able to study at a higher level on a HNC programme or at university, or alternatively you could progress into employment within a wide variety of areas such as finance, marketing or retail.
