What does this course involve?

You’ll learn a variety of subject areas including biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.

You can look forward to the chance to study in one of the country’s leading scientific centres, Discovery Park. With a host of scientific businesses on site and close industry links you will have the opportunity to develop early working relationships with some of the leading national and internationally based scientific companies.

The Study Programme will include an Extended Project which will support the development of employability skills and provide additional UCAS points for progression to university.

In addition to lessons and tutorials you will have the opportunity to work with some of the latest industry equipment in our specialist labs at Discovery Park, home to leading science-based companies.

We offer this course as a two year Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, to further your technical learning or progress on to university or other Higher Education courses.

This Study Programme will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and it will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at C grades or equivalent, including maths, English and science. Students may be able to progress from Level 2 vocationally related courses.

Assessment

You will undertake practical activities and investigative experiments. You will also participate in group presentations and individual research. In addition to lessons and tutorials you will have the opportunity to work with some of the latest industry equipment in our specialist labs at Discovery Park, home to companies such as Pfizer and Mylan.

Fees & Costs

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

Opportunities

After completing year one of this programme you can move on to our Extended Diploma and choose to study medical or applied science.

You could then progress on to one of our HNC programmes which could lead to a university degree. Alternatively you could choose to move on to a higher level Apprenticeship within the science industry.
