What does this course involve?

The Advanced Diploma in Accounting Level 3 is awarded by the AAT. This qualification introduces more complex accounting tasks, like preparing final accounts for sole traders and partnerships. The AAT qualification is valued by employers who actively seek AAT qualified staff. It shows that you have practical skills in accounting underpinned by thorough knowledge that will help you achieve success in the workplace. Part time tuition allows you to fit your training around your work and family commitments. While studying the Diploma in Accounting Level 3, you will learn how to maintain cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. Financial spreadsheets and professional ethics are also studied. It will help you develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the following areas: • Advanced Book Keeping • Final Accounts Preparation • Management Accounting: Costing • Indirect Tax • Spreadsheets for Accounting • Ethics for Accountants


What qualifications do I need?

You need to have achieved either the Accounting Apprenticeship at L2 or the AAT L2 Certificate in Accounting or be able to evidence previous qualifications, and/or work experience to prove sufficient vocational competence at Level 2; or have 5 GCSEs at C including Maths or English at C or above, (or equivalent) and it is essential that you also have skills in double entry bookkeeping. It is also important that you have a good standard of literacy and numeracy and are able to complete assessments and written projects in English. All assessments are undertaken using a computer therefore you need to be IT literate. Go to to undertake an accounting skills check. Print off the result and bring along to your interview. Please declare at interview any bankruptcy or debt issues past or present and/or criminal convictions. Please declare holidays during term time that could affect studies and exams.


Four unit assessments (at end of each unit) plus one synoptic test.

Reinstatement fee - £34 (a lapsed AAT student member)

All prices quoted are given as a guide, and may be subject to change. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such a travel, equipment and childcare. The fees for this course are payable by all learners. The College policy regarding remission of fees does not apply to this course.

The qualification will provide the opportunity to progress on to the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting Level 4. Upon successful completion, the Level 3 qualification accredits UCAS points toward university entry. You could also find employment in a wide range of business environments, suitable roles include: Trainee Accounting Technician or Assistant Accountant.
