What does this course involve?

This course is designed for those intending to work or volunteer in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs, and communication and professional relationships.

Modules covered include:

  • Child and young person development
  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Communication and professional relationships
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Schools as organisations
  • Help improve own and team practices within schools
  • Maintain and support relationships
  • Support health and safety
  • Support positive behaviour
  • Support learning activities

This Study Programme will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and it will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C / 4, or equivalent, including maths and English. Students may be able to progress from Level 1 vocationally related programmes.

Assessment

Assessment will be by the building of a portfolio of coursework and by workplace assessments.

Fees & Costs

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

Opportunities

Progression routes include the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or the Level 3 Early Years Educator course. Alternatively you may wish to progress into employment.
