What does this course involve?

Broadstairs Campus

You’ll learn the basics of woodwork and carpentry, from shaping timber for floorboards to making and assembling doors, window frames and even staircases. Throughout the Study Programme you will learn a wide variety of skills and techniques in our well equipped workshops. You can look forward to the chance to take part in national skills competitions and work on community projects.

Folkestone Campus

You’ll learn the practical skills needed for basic and more challenging Site Carpentry task such as: cutting and fitting skirting and architrave, door and window frame fixing, door hanging, ironmongery fittings, stud-work, joists, flat, truss and pitched roofing.

Throughout the Study Programme you will learn a wide variety of skills and techniques in our well-equipped workshops. You can look forward to the chance to take part in national skills competitions and work on community projects.

Your Study Programme will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and it will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at D grades or equivalent, including maths and English. Students may be able to progress from Level 1 vocationally related programmes.

Assessment

You will learn through practical sessions in our workshops and assessment will be through written work and online tests.

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare
