Level 2 - Painting and Decorating
15 hours per week
You’ll learn the importance of preparing surfaces for decoration, brush and roller painting, how to apply standard papers to ceilings and walls, decorative techniques, and how to apply paint via spray equipment.
You can look forward to hands-on work experience with community-based clients.
You’ll learn the practical skills needed to erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms, prepare surfaces for decoration, apply paint by brush and roller and how to apply wall coverings to ceilings and walls. You will also produce specialist decorative finishes and apply waterborne paint systems using high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment.
Your Study Programme will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and it will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.
You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at D grades or equivalent, including maths and English. Students may be able to progress from Level 1 vocationally related programmes.
You will learn through practical sessions in our workshop environments and assessment will be through written work and online tests.
Additional expenses to consider include commodities at around £45.
If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

Please note: For those claiming state working age benefit this course is classed as part-time.
On successful completion you could progress onto our Level 3 Painting and Decorating programme. Alternatively you could gain employment in the industry or move on to an apprenticeship.
