What does this course involve?

You will learn essential knowledge and skills such as the safe use of portable power tools, hand tools and fixed wood working machines. You will also learn how to set out, mark out and make various windows, doors, units and staircases. Part of the course will involve learning safe machine maintenance and the use of bandsaw and morticers machines. This course will give you the confidence and experience to undertake challenging bench joinery tasks and progress on to our Level 3 Study Programme. This Study Programme consists of 8 units with assessments: • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries • Knowledge of construction technology • Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools • Understanding construction information , quantities & communication with others • Set up and operate cutting and shaping machinery • Produce setting out details for routine joinery products • Mark out from setting out details for routine joinery products • Manufacture routine joinery products

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

You will need a Level 1 qualification in Site Carpentry / Bench Joinery or equivalent. You will also need GCSE grades D or above in math and English

Assessment

Throughout this course there are continued practical and knowledge assessments, some of which are timed assessments. For the Leve 2 Site Carpentry course there will be online exams at the end of each unit.

Fees & Costs

You must provide your own safety footwear, stationary, tape measure, course textbook (£30) and suitable clothing for the environment you work in.

Course fee: £900

All prices quoted are given as a guide, and may be subject to change. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such a travel, equipment and childcare. The fees for this course are payable by all learners aged 19 plus. The College policy regarding remission of fees does not apply to this course.

Opportunities

On successful completion you could progress onto a Level 3 Diploma in Bench Joinery. Alternatively, you could seek employment within the construction industry, either craft based, technical or professional.
