What does this course involve?

You will study in our industry standard EKC Laboratories, alongside world leading companies at Discovery Park in Sandwich, You will study in our industry standard EKC Laboratories, alongside world leading companies at Discovery Park in Sandwich, a major European Science hub. Not only will you learn the relevant theory but there is a significant emphasis on practical laboratory work, with a key focus to show how the theory is applied in real industry based applications. As a Level 4 qualification, this course is equivalent to the first year of a university-level course. Successful completion will lead onto the HND which is equivalent to the second year of a university-level course. It is suitable for those looking for an alternative to the undergraduate route or those in employment wishing to attend part-time. Attendance on the part time HNC is one day per week over 2 years. Access to course materials and work is provided on the college VLE. HNC Modules include: • Inorganic Chemistry • Organic Chemistry • Physical Chemistry • Chemical Laboratory Techniques • Analysis of Scientific Data and Information • Work-Based Experience • Laboratory Management • Employability Skills


What qualifications do I need?

You will need 48 UCAS points to join the HNC or if you already hold a HNC Chemistry you will be able to join the HND programme – see separate HND in Chemical Science for Industry.


You will be required to complete assignments, projects/investigations (lab based), course work, examinations and presentations.

On successful completion of the HNC, students will have the opportunity to join the HND programme or programmes at other universities (subject to relevant modules studied). Graduates will have opportunities in manufacturing, analytical chemistry and research and development in a wide range of chemical industries (pharmaceutical, forensic, environmental etc).
