Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

No formal qualifications are required. If you have no knowledge of English you may be required to complete a pre-entry course run in the local community before starting at College.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a range of tests and assignments, with your qualification depending on a final assessment at the end of your course. This will include reading, writing, speaking and listening tasks.

Fees & Costs

Course fees for ESOL will vary.

Books are available from the College library, but you are advised to buy a dictionary for your own language.

All prices quoted are given as a guide, and may be subject to change. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such a travel, equipment and childcare. The fees for this course are payable by all learners. The College policy regarding remission of fees does not apply to this course.

Opportunities

On successful completion you could progress through the levels until you reach Level 2, if you wish. Once your English skills reach a suitable level, you will be in a stronger position to apply for jobs or a mainstream course. For example, some of our ESOL students have progressed onto a range of courses including Motor Vehicle, Catering, Hair and Beauty, Childcare and Academic studies. English is a requirement for any job in the UK, so you will be much more employable by improving your ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
