What does this course involve?

English is a requirement for any job in the UK, so you will be much more employable by improving your ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

You will be studying towards a City and Guilds qualification in Skills for Life ESOL at the right level for you, based on your initial assessment; this will range from Entry Level 1 to Entry Level 3. Any students with English above this level should apply to more suitable courses at the College. The Study Programme runs from September until June over 36 weeks.

As well as learning English language skills, you will also study maths at the level which is appropriate for you. This could be anything from Entry 1 up to GCSE.

You will also undertake 30 hours of work experience and 10 hours of social action, such as community work.

What qualifications do I need?

The Study Programme is for students aged 16-19. You must be over 16 and under 19 on 31st August. There are no formal qualifications required but you will need to come for an assessment where your level will be decided.

Assessment for the award is done by means of written assignments carried out under controlled conditions. These will include interviews for the speaking and listening awards.

Fees & Costs

The ESOL Study Programme is funded so there are no fees to pay.

Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such a travel, equipment and childcare.
