Minimum of 15 hours workplacement within a school. For the day release programme you will be expected to attend a 3 hour lesson during the week, this will be at the College campus.

What does this course involve?

This course is designed for those working or volunteering in a school. This can be delivered solely in the workplace, and learners can start at anytime throughout the year.Alternatively students can opt to attend a one half day a week day release programme at College, this runs from September to June.

Modules covered include:

Communication and professional relationships

Schools as organisations

Support learning activities

Promote positive behaviour

Develop professional relationships

Promote quality, diversity and inclusion

Support assessment for learning

Understand child and young person development

Engage in personal development

Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people

Support health and safety

You will also have the option to study English and maths alongside this qualification.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

Prior to starting this course you will need to provide a letter confirming that you have a contract for a minimum of 15 hours (paid or voluntary) work as a Teaching Assistant or similar position within a school. Please be aware that all applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check unless one is already in place.

Assessment

Assessments is the same for both routes and will be carried out by monthly tutorials and observations in the workplace. There will also be the building of a portfolio of evidence which will demonstrate competence.

Fees & Costs

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the course your course will be free. There may be payments needed for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learner(over 19yrs) then financial support towards the costs of your course may be available.
