Minimum of 10 hours workplacement within a school. For the day release programme you will be expected to attend a 3 hour lesson during the week, this will be at the College campus.

What does this course involve?

This course is designed for those working or volunteering in a school. This can be delivered solely in the workplace, and learners can start at anytime throughout the year.Alternatively students can opt to attend a one half day a week day release programme at College, this runs from September to June.

Modules covered include:

Child and young person development

Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people

Communication and professional relationships

Equality, diversity and inclusion

Schools as organisations

Help improve own and team practices within schools

Maintain and support relationships

Support health and safety

Support positive behaviour

Support learning activities

You will also have the option to study English and maths alongside this qualification.

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

Prior to starting this course you will need to provide a letter confirming that you have a contract for a minimum of 10 hours (paid or voluntary) work as a Teaching Assistant or similar position within a school. Please be aware that all applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check unless one is already in place.

Assessment

Assessments is the same for both routes and will be carried out by monthly tutorials and observations in the workplace. There will also be the building of a portfolio of evidence which will demonstrate competence.

Fees & Costs

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the course your course will be free. There may be payments needed for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learner(over 19yrs) then financial support towards the costs of your course may be available.

Opportunities

Progression routes include the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Alternatively you may wish to progress into employment.
