What does this course involve?

This qualification allows you to develop skills in double entry bookkeeping and to gain a grasp of management and administrative processes. The AAT qualification is valued by employers who actively seek AAT qualified staff. It shows that you have practical skills in accounting underpinned by thorough knowledge that will help you achieve success in the workplace. Part time tuition allows you to fit your training around your work and family commitments. While studying the Foundation Certificate in Accounting Level 2, you will learn basic costing principles, how to use manual and computerised accounting systems and how to work with purchase, sales and general ledger. It will help you develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the following areas: • Book keeping transactions • Book keeping controls • Work effectively in finance • Elements of costing • Using accounting software

Requirements

What qualifications do I need?

You need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at D and E or equivalent. It is also important that you have a good standard of literacy and numeracy, and are able to complete assessments and written projects in English. All assessments are undertaken using a computer; therefore you need to be IT literate. Go to www.aatskillcheck.org to undertake an accounting skills check. Print off the result and bring along to your interview. Please declare at interview any bankruptcy or debt issues past or present and/or criminal convictions. Please contact the AAT direct on 0845 863 0802 to discuss individual circumstances prior to enrolment to ensure AAT membership can be obtained. Please declare holidays during term time that could affect studies and exams.

Assessment

Four unit assessments (at the end of each unit) plus one synoptic test.

Initial AAT Membership - £131 (Student admission fee £41 + Student annual membership £90)
Stationery - £20 (estimate)

All prices quoted are given as a guide, and may be subject to change. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such a travel, equipment and childcare. The fees for this course are payable by all learners. The College policy regarding remission of fees does not apply to this course.

Opportunities

The qualification will provide the opportunity to progress on to the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting at Level 3. You could find employment in a wide range of business environments. Suitable roles include: Accounts Assistant/Clerk, Cashier Credit Control Clerk, Finance Assistant, Purchase Ledger Clerk or Sales Ledger Clerk.
